As a photographer and hobbyist archaeologist\, Mr. Chervinko has visited and captured many of the most beautiful historical sites in the region. \nSpeaker Mike Chervinko from Carbondale will discuss the prehistoric activity in our area’s past with specific emphasis on petroglyphs. Mike is an RN with a passion for\nphotography and archaeology. He has published two books and has done work for the State of Illinois. He has successfully gained access to public and private properties in\nSouthern Illinois and Southeast Missouri to view and capture the petroglyph work of the indigenous peoples of our area. Come see the results of his most interesting work and\nbe ready to be amazed. Refreshments will be served. \n“Born and raised in southern Illinois\, I have long loved the purity and intimacy this landscape has to offer.  It is one of the Midwest’s best kept secrets.  And it is in this landscape that many unexpected secrets and stories can be found.  Experiences that are sure to draw you in and leave you asking for more.  For years now\, I have wielded a photographer’s eye towards these scenes and relish capturing moments of enthrallment and splendor.  I point my camera towards the grand\, towards the hidden\, and towards fleeting moments sure to inspire.  A large part of what motivates me is the unconditional solitude I find here hiding around every corner\, a rare gift in today’s world\, indeed!  It is my home.  It is beautiful.  It is the Shawnee National Forest.  Please enjoy my interpretations of the marvelous landscape.” –taken from the bio page on Mr. Chervinko’s website. \nThis event is made possible by a collaboration between the Chester Beautification/Tourism Commission and the Chester Public Library.
