STEM Activity: Bacterial Growth Plates, Part 1

Sign up to participate in this science activity to see what kinds of microorganisms we can find in the library! During part 1 of this activity, participants will learn about the different kinds of microorganisms, then swab items in the library and spread them on nutrient agar plates. Plates will be kept in the library to incubate for one week. Be sure to come back to see the results!

We’ll learn about sterile laboratory techniques, how to limit bacterial growth for food safety and when cleaning, and why proper hand-washing is so important.
